🧭   York’s Hidden Cycling Routes for Autumn Adventures York isn’t just a city of cobbled lanes and minster spires — it’s a cyclist’s dream. Once you roll beyond the city walls, the roads open into quiet country lanes, forest trails, and riverside routes that come alive in autumn. When the air turns crisp and the hedgerows glow gold, there’s no better way to see it all than from the saddle. Here are a few of my favourite hidden gems around York — routes I’ve explored countless times, and ones that always remind me why I love riding here. 🚲  1. Askham Bryan Loop Head southwest from the city, and the traffic fades almost instantly after the ring road. The lanes roll past farmland and open fields, with gentle corners that invite you to settle into a rhythm. There’s a great little stop at Askham Grange Café for a coffee and slice of something sweet before looping back towards town.
